Naked Lunch Review

Naked Lunch came out in 1991 and was directed by the ever-puss-filled David Cronenburg. We have used science (and possibly the box cover) to determine that this movie fits perfectly into the "SF, Cronenburg Style" genre.

During the time we had our polls open, 352 shifty viewers just like you weighed in on Naked Lunch. 223 of 'em thought it was great! 129 thought it was shit. Takes all kinds.

This is a Dave and Jim's B-Movie Review. This review was written some time between 1996 and 2001. Once you've sucked the marrow from this one, you can head back to the full list to pick another review for savoring. Do it again and again.

Dave's Review

Naked Lunch proves beyond a doubt that a movie doesn't have to make the slightest bit of sense and still be enjoyable. I could see this thing a dozen times, and still not understand it a bit more. But I'd still enjoy watching it. It's weird, but cool. And it's cool in a way that makes you want to go get an old typewriter, put on a fedora, and start typing up a report. Peter Weller rules!

Jim's Review

I have seen Naked Lunch with several people, and basically I get one of 2 reactions each time, either "Wow! That movie was so weird, I must see it again to see if I can understand it" or "I will never ever watch that movie again unless I am on an hallucinogenic drug of some kind, damn, it was a weird movie, and it made no sense!". I happen to love this movie, and I ended up having the first reaction. Basically this movie will be throughly enjoyable as long as the viewer is not expecting to find a meaning in the movie. My second time watching it was a lot better once I realized that I was never going to figure this movie out. I even read the book, by William Burroughs and it was just 10 times more confusing. This movie is hard to explain, it is truly an original work, and there are very few movies that it can be compared it to. It is well worth seeing, if only for the experience of seeing a movie that random.
