My Review
These books are not high art, but they’re every bit the adventures I remember as a kid. There are a ton of reminders and recaps in this second book, which was genuinely helpful since we were reading it out loud, sometimes as little as a chapter a night, as a bedtime story.
The clues and story are maybe a little silly, but I enjoyed "solving" it along with the Investigators. I like saying, "Oh, I think I know what that means," every once in a while and my kid will often take a guess too. I don’t say what I think until we find out the answer. I think I enjoy it most my own guess was wrong. It’s more interesting.
I wouldn’t want to read these in a row. It would get a bit monotonous, but so far, they’ve been good when spaced out between other books (Roald Dahl at the moment).
