Weekends are the wrong length
I’m not a fan of the weekend situation.
I appreciate that we even have time off at all:
…originally a voluntary arrangement between factory owners and workers allowing Saturday afternoon off starting at two pm on the basis that staff would be available for work sober and refreshed on Monday morning.
I understand why it was so important for the dehumanizing modern industrial labor system of the early 19th century. If your job is making widgets on a factory floor, the current weekend system probably makes tons of sense.
But the 5/2 day split is absolute garbage for my particular type of "knowledge worker" brain. I just get into the swing of things being at work or being off work and then it’s over. And it happens over and over again every week.
I would love to try an alternate schedule like 10 days working and 4 days off. Or 20 days working and 8 days off.
But unless you’re self-employed you’re stuck with this factory schedule.
This card is just a complaint. That is all.
