A Writing Website Idea

Created: 2023-12-30

I had this one years ago.

The problem: Aspiring fiction writers would love to have their work read by peers. But who wants to read big old stories by random amateur authors?

The solution: When you join the site, you are given a prompt and must post a mini-story with a tiny word limit. Maybe 25 words. Really tiny.

Then you read ten other people’s stories and pick three favorites.

If enough people pick your story, you move to the next level. If not, you can try again with tomorrow’s prompt.

The next level is 50 words. Then 150, 300, 500…

The amount of time you have to wait might go up, too (because at some point, you shouldn’t be writing or reading really big things too quickly - we are looking for QUALITY here).

(In fact, maybe there’s no prompts and maybe there’s no max times, just minimum times.)

You’ll still be judging smaller works from the lower levels too, because we don’t want just amateurs judging amateurs at the lower levels - that’d be crazy! (Or would it?)

The point is that you’d never be reading big old boring texts by people who can’t write well enough to "earn the words" from peers.
