Dave's notes on various computer science papers
It finally dawned on me that I should have a section of the website devoted to these notes so I can easily reference and link to them in the future.
(I’ve always prefered books, but I’m starting to incorporate more papers into my diet. I’ll need to go back and re-read the few I’ve already read so I can remember enough to write about them. But you gotta start somewhere…)
In addition to my notes, each of the pages will have a link to an archived copy of the original paper:
-
1984 - Program Design in the UNIX Environment by Rob Pike and Brian Kernighan
-
1985 - Programming as Theory Building by Peter Naur
-
1987 - A Tutorial for the Sam Command Language by Rob Pike
-
2006 - Out of the Tar Pit (pending - I finished reading it 2025-11-06 but it gave me some serious homework!)
-
2025 - Asymmetry, heteronomy, delegation: what happens when our self-reliance in fact relies on technological providers? by Roman Philip
Note to self: Some of the papers I’m most interested in are on Brett Victor’s website: http://worrydream.com/refs/
TODO: Remove old title "Paper Notes" from the individual pages because it’s confusing.
