Reflection in journaling
Here I mean the introspective parts of journaling:
-
What have I done?
-
What am I doing now?
-
What should I do next?
Without this introspection:
-
The recording part of journaling is mere cataloging/archiving.
-
The present thoughts part of journaling is "just" sorting thoughts.
-
The future aspirations part of journaling is another form of doomed TODO list.
Of course, all of these are valuable:
-
Recording can be useful for searching later
-
Sorting thoughts can help make sense of the world
-
Writing future aspirations lets you unload those from your mind so it’s free to think of other things
So how does one introspect?
The method I’m currently doing (2022) is following a journaling-wmy distilling process.
But there are a billion ways to tackle this. For example, a jounaling-quarterly review.
